Poppit Sands is a large sandy beach at the mouth of the River Teifi, backed by superb natural surroundings and looks across to stunning views of Cardigan Island.
Poppit is the most northerly beach within the National Park and because it's close to Cardigan it attracts many visitors during seasonal months. It is the only large sandy beach for miles around and is a popular destination for horse riding, kite sports, boat launching and sea fishing. The beach is surrounded by dunes which have been conserved by the work of National Park volunteers; the eastern side of the sand dunes have eroded and formed sand cliffs which can reach over 4 meters tall.
The Green Sea project plans on upgrading the beach's existing car park through improving the surfacing, drainage and landscaping to bring the facility up to the standard expected of this Blue Flag beach.
The Pembrokeshire Coast Path starts just down the road at St Dogmaels, though many walkers pick up the path at Poppit, which is regularly serviced by bus from Cardigan and the Poppit Rocket bus service. The area is protected because of its superb wildlife, including bottlenose dolphins, which you might spot from the shore when the tide is right.
There is a seasonal dog restriction in force during the summer months with dogs allowed on the estuary side of the beach.

At the north-western end of the beach there are rock pools which support a myriad of sea-life.
Cardigan Bay is a fantastic place to dolphin spot. Cardigan Bay is home to one of only two resident groups of Bottlenose Dolphins in the UK. Estimates to the number of Dolphins in the Bay vary but a figure of 127 is often quoted. Poppit is also occasionally visited by seals and porpoises in summer.
