Newgale Beach is a magnificent two mile long stretch of wide, flat sand with a huge pebble bank behind it.

The sand on this beach may disappear at high tide but at low tide it's an activities paradise. Newgale is one of Pembrokeshire's top three surfing locations, attracting surfers and kayakers to its clear waters. Thanks to the length of the beach and the absence of underwater obstructions, it's perfect for wind surfing and kite surfing too.

If you're planning on walking the coast path then setting off from Newgale provides fantastic views of some of the best bits of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. There are several B&Bs, farms and guesthouses near Newgale, with hotels located in the nearby towns of St David's or Haverfordwest. There are several camping and caravan sites close to the beach as well as a good selection of self-catering cottages in Newgale and surrounding villages.

Walking towards the Southern end of the beach you will find a magnificent walk-through cave and numerous sheltered bays. Also on the southern end of the beach is a car park that is run by the National Park, Pebbles Café and beach shop, and Newgale's surf school - Newsurf. At very low tide it's possible to walk round to Cwn Mawr beach, but keep an eye on the tide otherwise you may get stuck!

In the centre of the beach are two car parks, one next to the lifeguard building and the other used predominantly by surfers and kite surfers. There's usually a mobile van selling ice cream and hot drinks.

At the north end of the beach, next to Newgale village, you can find The Duke of Edinburgh, Big Blue kite surfing and, just over the bridge, the Sands café. The Sands serve tea and coffee and a range of bites from their bistro style menu. Breakfast is served all day from early morning and filled baguettes are available to take away. The Duke of Edinburgh serves food at lunchtime and in the evening.

Dog restrictions apply to the middle third of the beach between the 1st May and 30th September.

The Green Sea programme is enhancing the main car park environment and improving visitor facilities with the addition of recycled furniture, an outdoor shower, cycle racks and improved access to the beach. These improvements will help to ensure that everyone visiting Newgale has access to easy parking, tourist information and can get to the beach.

Area Objective

Newgale Car Park Improvements

Newgale Car Park Improvements

Green Sea funding has enhanced the main car park environment in a number of ways.

Earth mounding with native planting now incorporates the site area into the surrounding landscape, minimises erosion of the bank and lessens the impact of the existing toilet block and surf life saving building. It also provides visitors with some protection from the wind. Facilities have also been improved for visitors with the addition of recycled furniture, an outdoor shower (a pilot in Pembrokeshire), cycle racks and improved access to the beach. Recycling facilities will also be added at a later date.
