Cefn Sidan has been described as one of Europe's best beaches.
With eight miles of flat, golden sand, this glorious beach, located in Pembey's Country Park has been given prestigious Blue Flag status. The name translates from Welsh to mean 'Silky Back', a perfect description of the smooth, silky beach.
With lifeguards on active duty, the beach is safe and friendly with excellent access and facilities for disabled visitors and young children.
The beach has many different water and beach sports including sand yachting, swimming, sea canoeing and fishing, kite flying and parasailing. Safety is paramount on this beach and an area has been zoned off for these activities, allowing others to relax in peace.
There is also a host of excellent family attractions near the beach such as crazy golf, beach entertainers, a dry ski slope, toboggan run, charming miniature railway, cycle paths, and a permanent orienteering course. As well as this, there is a horse riding event course and walks through the forests, as well as camping facilities for tents, caravans, toilets and showers.
The dunes and surrounding area are designated SSSI's (Sites of Special Scientific Interest). Nature trails exist throughout the Country Park, including the beach. The Saltings area is a local nature reserve. Rare plants and interesting birdlife exist throughout the park and there are 2 bird hides within the conservation area. On the beach, the strand line is of particular interest to beachcombers.
Pembrey County Park and award winning Cefn Sidan Beach will benefit from Green Sea funding through the transformation of the existing beach toilets and a new parent and toddler unit. The refurbishment is taking on energy conservation schemes aimed at reducing electricity, and water consumption.
If the beach is too windy you can always explore the treasures of Pembrey Country Park, where you'll find World War Two gun emplacements and Royal Ordnance structures that are classed as historical buildings.
If you have a dog why not take it on an exhilarating walk, on the coast, path or in the woodlands at Pembrey
A wonderful time can be had beachcombing for shells (see mermaids purses, cockles, dog whelks, razor and oyster shells) and driftwood at Cefn Sidan or take a refreshing summer swim. There is a lifeguard patrolled bathing area (please check dates); please keep within the controlled area.
Cefn Sidan storm beach is fantastic for fishing. Spot jellyfish washed up at high water mark – not all species sting, the most common one, moon jellyfish, trap plankton within its mucus
On a windy day head inland and explore Pembrey Country Park and forest, from cycling to sking, to toboganning and golf, adventure play to horse riding, it's all at Pembrey Country Park
At the Park spot World War Two era gun emplacements and Royal Ordnance structures that are now classed as historical buildings.
Take a walk on the All Wales Coast Path along the northern shore of the Loughor Estuary, towards the Millennium Coastal Park. This route is also bike and wheelchair friendly
